MARCH 2025

CARTER SAMPSON BAND

Monday 3rd March / 8pm / £15

Oklahoma is a hotbed of good music and no-one knows that better than the self-crowned ‘Queen of Oklahoma’ Carter Sampson, who will be touring the UK with her full band from 28 Feb to 16 March 2025. Born and raised in the central state, Sampson writes relatable and honest songs about family, love, life and historical characters. She’s released six albums with her two latest records being released on the influential Horton record label. Her last album, Gold, spent many months on the Americana Music Charts.
She tours internationally, and has had much success playing regularly in Europe and the UK:
‘I really love playing in the UK. I joke about it a lot but American audiences are generally loud and don’t listen very well – English audiences are so quiet and kind.’
Carter won first place in the Chris Austin Songwriting contest at Merlefest, NC, and has performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest and the Lincoln Center in NYC as a top finalist in their respective songwriting contests.
Carter is also the founder and director of The Rock and Roll Camp for Girls OKC, a non-profit organisation set up in Oklahoma that empowers girls, women and non-binary folks through music education.
As she describes it: ‘Most of our campers have no or little musical experience and it is truly amazing what these kids achieve in one week. The amount of self-esteem that comes from such an accomplishment is really what it’s all about.’

THE SONGS OF LEONARD COHEN

Keith James in concert

Thursday 13th March / 8pm / £16

These remarkable songs – stripped back, honest, naked and sensual. ‘There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in’ Cohen’s most memorable and visionary line from his song ANTHEM. If ever there was a sentence in modern poetry to reflect on and give hope and understanding to us all, it is this line. This Concert begins with ANTHEM.’ Enigmatic, mysterious and sub textural, songwriter Leonard Cohen was an unflinching character, with an exact sense of prose, wry humour and the courage to wrestle with the unspoken, forgiving human frailty and indulgence with the stroke of each word. Keith James gives you a concert of Cohen’s amazing material in the most intimate and sensitive way imaginable, exposing the solitary inner strength of his greatest songs in their original perfect form. Keith has performed an extensive tour of this concert in Theatres and Arts Centres across the UK, giving almost 500 concerts to more than 200,000 people. This has proved to be ‘life changing’ and one of the greatest honours in Keith James’ 50 year career in music.Included in the concert are Cohen’s well-known songs: Famous Blue Raincoat, Sisters of Mercy, Suzanne and Hallelujah alongside his rarer and profound writing such as If it be your will, Joan of Arc and Secret Life. Also included are Keith’s dramatic performances based on the work of Federico Garcia Lorca – Cohen’s greatest influence.

‘Keith James’ Concert was truly memorable. My tears started as soon as he introduced the first song, and I came away thinking the human spirit will not be defeated. The Hay Festival

‘Some of the most atmospheric and emotive music you will ever hear’ The Independent

‘There is a delicious soulfulness going on here’ Colin Hall

‘not to be missed’ Mark Radcliffe

WILLE AND THE BANDITS

Friday 28th March / 8pm / £18

Support James Dixon

Essentially a classic blues/rock band much in the vein of Hendrix and Cream but in a similar way to how these bands pushed the genre in their time Wille and The Bandits try to take their sound beyond what is expected of such a traditional line up. Having toured with artists such as Deep Purple through to the John Butler Trio and played major festivals across Europe the band seem to leave an equally astounding impression on audiences of all ages and musical tastes with their energetic and soulful performances. They’ve received much critical acclaim being voted in the Top Ten must see bands at Glastonbury by BBC Radio 1 and reaching number 2 in the UK blues charts with their first single on downloads alone. Now touring their 3rd independently released studio album the band’s fan base, repertoire of sounds, styles and innovations are growing at an exponential rate.
It’s rare to find a band as dynamic as Wille and The Bandits, one that is equally as comfortable and impressive at both ends of the sonic spectrum. Ten seconds of You Tube does not scratch the surface of the bands sound and message; this is a band that’s very much about discovery and one best experienced LIVE!
“…howling, cinematic psychoblues… breathtaking” R2
“If Cream had spent more time on a beach in Newquay they might have sounded like this” Blues Matters
“This incredibly talented band excels in not just playing one or two musical styles but in fact focus on several genres to an extremely high quality” Maverick Magazine
“These boys can sing and groove like whiskey angels and it doesn’t take long to realise why they belong on the festival circuit” Glastonbury Festival
“Will Edwards bourbon laced vocals instantly grab you after hearing the first note, the Dobro is a superb instrument and when it is played like this you notice how sublime this band is.” Maverick
